At Gillespie we offer a vibrant and high quality science and design and technology education and have built a dedicated, specialist science and technology lab to ensure that pupils get access to inspirational learning and fantastic resources. We want our children to leave Gillespie School with a genuine passion for and interest in STEM related subjects that lasts a lifetime.
Our science curriculum is carefully designed to build on educational programs set out in the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. The children experience learning about science through the programs of study relating to understanding of the world and in particular the natural world which prepares them to engage with the National Curriculum from Key Stage 1. We ensure that our science education provides the foundations for science learning about biology, chemistry and physics and prepares children for learning the science disciplines at secondary school. We encourage children to be inquisitive throughout their time at the school. We provide additional science and technology opportunities beyond the National Curriculum for all our children through our Lab_13 program of enrichment led by our Resident Scientist. We want children to begin to associate themselves and engage with science beyond the classroom in their daily lives and to have aspirations for science and technology to play a significant role in their lives and even their careers.
